Haileyville Christian Church

In many ways, we are what you would normally expect in a church. We sing praises, have prayer, take up an offering, and listen to a sermon from the Bible. We offer the opportunity for all who belong to Christ (all baptized believers) to share in the Lord's Supper (communion) every Sunday. Any Christian may participate. We believe this truly is the Lord's Supper so we have no right to deny it to anyone.

We place a high emphasis on baptism. We agree with the majority of Protestant churches that we are saved by faith and not by our works (Ephesians 2:8-9). We feel that the New Testament teaches us that we must also surrender our lives to Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9). Any personal claim to faith that does not result in obedience fails to make Jesus Lord and in the words of James is "dead" (James 2:17). The early church took Paul so seriously when he said we share in his death and resurrection at the time of our baptism (Romans 6:3-8) that they made many of their baptistries in the shape of a cross.
